Random Post and FREEBIES

Okay, it's random post time...

There are bunch of little things I've been meaning to post but just haven't quite gotten around to it.  In an organizing frenzy one night, I made some binder covers.  I was inspired by some great ones I'd found from Rowdy in Room 300, but I needed slightly different titles for my binders.  I am loving how the polka dot / stripes combo came out.  I made binder covers for my Lesson Plans, Student Data, Literacy Assessments, CAFE, and AIMS Web.  Click HERE to grab your own copy.

Our district uses the McGraw-Hill Treasures reading series.  One of the graphic organizers I love from the series is the "Somebody-Wanted-But-So" chart.  It's so helpful when we discuss the story after we read.  I wanted a chart for my kiddos to complete that had some cute fonts on it.  I love the HOWSER font from Kevin and Amanda Fonts.  The best part is, all their fonts are FREE!  Check out the graphic organizer below and if you want a copy of your own, CLICK HERE.

Last, but not least, we had our first round of parent conferences last week.  I wanted my firsties to complete a quick (and easy!) writing piece that I could give to their parents to start the conference off on a positive note.  I had them write about their favorite thing to do in first grade.  Some of my kids really surprised me with what they like best in our classroom!  CLICK HERE to grab your own copy.

Alright, enough randomness for one evening.  I'm off to watch more election coverage... I hope you all Rocked the Vote today!!!

  1. I'm intrigued by the "Somebody Wanted But So" chart - could you explain how you use it? I tried to figure it out in my head but couldn't make it make sense! :)

  2. Hey Brie,
Glad you like the GO! Basically we use this to plot out our story elements...
Somebody (character), Wanted (their goal), But (problem), So (solution). Most recently we read a story about a dinosaur who wants to go to school, but he messes everything up in the classroom. Then he helps the teacher and all is well, he is invited back again. 1st grade, simple stories, haha! So our chart would go something like this...
    Somebody - Flip the dinosaur
Wanted - to go to school
But - he made a mess in the classroom and the teacher got angry
So - he helped the teacher reach something high up in the classroom, and she invited him back to school again
